Associate Professor, Michael Alifrangis

Michael Alifrangis is responsible for molecular diagnostics of malaria and molecular studies of antimalarial drug resistance  and is the Principal supervisor for PhD student Queen Saidi who will undertake the molecular studies.

Michael has researched Molecular Markers of infectious disease for 20 years mainly related to malaria but more recently bacterial infections.  He has served on two WHO Global Malaria Programme expert committes (Monitoring SP resistance in the context of Intermittant Preventative Treatment in Infants and Intermittant preventative treatment of malaria in Ppregnancy), and is currently a technical advisor for the Worldwide Antimalarial Resistance Network (WWARN).
